Your Neighbor on the Left Podcast

Your Neighbor on the Left is a podcast done, not by a professional political talking head, but just an average guy, living life as a progressive liberal in the midst of very conservative surroundings. Each episode will tackle hot topics for the week, as well as doing a deep dive on one important issue. A must-listen for progressives of every ilk, but also a non-hostile way for folks on the right to hopefully better understand their neighbors on the left.

Trump promised peace. What we got was war. In this episode, we break down the U.S. bombing of Iran, tracing it back to the collapse of the Iran nuclear deal, Israel’s opening strike, and Trump’s long record of contradictory rhetoric. We unpack why this attack was reckless, how both parties and the global community are responding, and what it reveals about a president who’s out of deals—and out of time. Plus vetting social media, Mayor Trump, Nerd Generals, liberal Fox Polls, and the Nobel Prize for delusion.

June 14th, 2025 was a day of stark contrasts in America. In D.C., a lackluster military parade with more fanfare than substance. Across the country, 13 million people flooded the streets for the largest single-day protest in U.S. history — the “No Kings” march. But amid the chants and chaos came tragedy: a targeted political assassination in Minnesota that claimed the lives of State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, and left two more victims fighting for theirs. In this episode, we unpack the spectacle, the uprising, and the violence — and we call out the right-wing disinformation machine that tried to rewrite it all before the blood was even dry. June 14th wasn’t just another day on the calendar. It was a crossroads. Let’s talk about how we got here — and where we go next.

This episode pulls back the curtain on the conspiracy-soaked world of MAGA — from “Stop the Steal” and QAnon to wild tales about a “Deep State” coup. We break down the facts, expose the misinformation, and highlight the growing danger these conspiracy theories pose to our democracy. Because when paranoia overtakes policy, we all lose. As always, we'll have some hot topics, including Trump's politicizing the military, Medicaid data usage, a reality check on the "China Deal," and more.

When a president sends troops to suppress peaceful protest, we’re not just witnessing politics—we’re watching democracy under pressure. In this episode, we unpack President Trump’s deployment of military forces in California and what it reveals about his approach to dissent, governance, and power. We explore the difference between protest and violence, between order and control, and ask what this moment means for the future of civil liberties in America. A sober, thoughtful look at a week that should concern every American—no matter your party.  If you’re not angry yet, listen up. Because silence isn’t neutral. It’s surrender.

In this episode of Your Neighbor on the Left, we dive into the dark heart of Trump’s second term and explore what happens when a former president returns to power with a grudge. From purging federal agencies and targeting political enemies, to reshaping the Department of Justice into a personal weapon, Trump 2.0 isn’t just about policy—it’s about payback. We unpack his plans for retribution, the chilling rhetoric that frames his 2025 agenda, and the authoritarian undercurrents that have critics sounding the alarm. It’s part history lesson, part wake-up call—and yeah, there’s a joke or two along the way.

Pride Month is back — and so is the conservative outrage. We unpack why MAGA-world loses its mind every June, what Pride really means, and why the rest of us aren’t actually affected. Also: a look at what else gets honored this month (hint: it’s not just rainbows and drag queens).

"We are the party of Lincoln!" announce the Republicans. "It's the Democrats that have always been the racists." While Abraham Lincoln was, in fact, the first Republican president, how much does the modern GOP resemble the ideals and priorities of the party that was born in the 1850s? What does the Democratic platform look like in comparison to that is the "Solid South" and the pro-slavery politicians that pushed the country into the Civil War? In this episode, we take a look at how the parties have realigned ideologically over the last century and a half. Hot topics for the week include, the MAHA Report, the exit of Elon Musk from his role as DOGE, an update on the ongoing tariff turmoil, and a look at the "Deepfake" scandal currently swirling in the White House.

President Trump is no stranger to pushing against the Constitutional boundaries that are in place, but this past week has been particularly insane! In this supplemental episode of Your Neighbor on Left, we look at the inappropriate pardons issued this week by the president and how they're not only corrupt and dangerous, but brazenly hypocritical.
This is a do-not-miss episode, particularly MAGA friends or listeners - if there are any - who have claimed to be concerned about corruption, especially in the Executive Branch.

This week's episode centers on the concept of asylum. We'll take a deep dive into how asylum works, how it's supposed to work, and discuss the way in which its availability is subject to some rather suspect criteria. We'll try to add some human faces to what has become a very depersonalize concept by hearing some specific stories of individuals who have left their homes seeking asylum
The hot topics for the week will include the "Big Beautiful Bill," the "Trump Slump" in business travel from foreign countries, particularly the EU, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa's visit to the White House, and the newest attack by the administration on Harvard University.

In this supplemental, Back Porch Files episode of Your Neighbor on the Left, we dive into a popular Christian Right talking point: “God can use flawed men for His purposes”—usually brought up to defend Donald Trump’s long list of moral failings. Sure, God used David, Paul, and even Pharaoh—but is that a good reason to cast your vote for someone who openly mocks, lies, and divides? We’ll explore why this line of thinking doesn’t hold up theologically, why character still matters (yes, even in politics), and how excusing bad behavior in the name of political wins damages the credibility of the Church.
This isn’t just about Trump—it’s about what we’re willing to tolerate, excuse, or even celebrate in the name of power. Let’s talk about it.
